Rémy Zaugg

Rémy Zaugg was born 1943 in Courgenay, Switzerland, and died on August 23, 2005. Solo exhibitions include Reina Sofía, Madrid (2016), Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Siegen (2015), Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur, Chur (2012), Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern (2007), Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt (2006). His work has also been shown in group exhibitions such as A Poetic Time, Le Manor, Martigny (2013), Something Turned Into A Thing, Magasin III Stockholm Konsthall, Stockholm, High Time, Toxic, Luxembourg, Visionäre Sammlung Vol. 18: Das Haus Des Künstlers, Haus Konstruktiv, Stiftung für konstruktive und konkrete Kunst, Zürich, Dancing towards the Essence, Kunsthaus Grenchen, Grenchen, A Matter of Words, OSL contemporary, Oslo (all 2012), Void if Removed - Concrete Erudition 4, FRAC - Ile-de-France Le Plateau, Paris (all 2011), and Radical Conceptual, Museum für Moderne Kunst (MMK), Frankfurt am Main (2010). 
Parallell with his artistic practice Rémy Zaugg was a prolific writer, which played an important role in his work. He published “Die List der Unschuld: Das Wahrnehmen einer Skulptur” in 1982, “Für das Kunstwerk: Kunstmuseum Bern, Atelier 5“ in 1982, “Das Kunstmuseum, das ich mir erträume, oder Der Ort des Werkes und des Menschen” in 1987, “Die Entstehung eines Bildwerkes” in 1990 and “Voir Mort” in 1990. In 2005 a comprehensive monograph by Gerhard Mack was published by Fondation Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean Luxembourg. 
Zaugg’s collaboration with the architects Herzog & de Meuron has resulted in several publications and around 15 realised architectural projects, for instance the design of Tate Modern in London. Another example is the extension of the Aargauer Kunsthaus in Aarau, Switzerland, and his own studio in Mulhause, France. Galerie Nordenhake presented its first solo show with the artist in 1998 and has since exhibited Rémy Zaugg in 2000, 2003 and 2005.
