Torsten Andersson

Torsten Andersson was born in South Sweden in 1926. His career as a painter started with first exhibitions in the 1950s. In 1960 he became the youngest professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, a position he left in 1966. He returned to South Sweden where he lived and worked until his death 2009.

During his lifetime Andersson was internationally exhibited and participated in the 32d Venice Biennale in 1964 and the São Paulo Biennial in 1959 and in 1983. Retrospective exhibitions were on view at Moderna Museet in1986 and Malmö Konsthall in 1987. His work was presented in solo and group exhibitions at Göteborgs Konstmuseum (2008), Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2006), Zeno X Gallery, Antwerp (2003), Kunstmuseum Bonn (1999), Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk (1997), Malmö Konstmuseum (1995), and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris (1981) among others.
