Ana Cláudia Almeida, ektor garcia, and Thea Ekström each explore the thresholds between memory, materiality, and transformation. garcia’s tactile sculptures entwine ancestral labor, craft, and identity into compelling physical forms —his first institutional solo exhibition in the U.S. opened in October at the San José Museum of Art. Almeida’s canvases, which often dissolve into sculptural extensions, have recently drawn critical acclaim: she was highlighted by New York Magazine as “one of six female artists making major solo debuts this fall,” ahead of her New York debut at Stephen Friedman Gallery.

Thea Ekström’s haunting compositions, characterized by biomorphic forms and dreamlike symbolism, remain under-recognized despite her active engagement in the Stockholm, Paris and New York scenes in the sixties through eighties, the most prolific decades of her production. This exhibition invites to rediscover Ekström’s work, refracted through the practices of Almeida and garcia.
