Michael Schmidt Thomas Struth Tobias Zielony Stadtbilder
Stockholm, January 11, 2019 February 16, 2019
Galerie Nordenhake Stockholm presents an exhibition of three renowned German photographers: Michael Schmidt, Thomas Struth and Tobias Zielony. Their respective oeuvres are marked by a rigorous approach to their medium and a consistent and long-term exploration of their subjects. The city lies at the core of each artist’s oeuvre and the exhibition explores the the relationship between the urban infrastructure and its inhabitants, from topographies of neighbourhoods, streets and buildings to public gatherings and unguarded depictions of the people and groupings that populate it. Connecting to the tradition of street photography the images traverse documentary and create a broken narrative in which architecture and protagonists cohabit. The urban realm reveals itself as an infrastructure within and in relation to which the individual and group identity manifests itself. A geographic and historically specific meta-structure formed by inhabitants, which simultaneously forms its inhabitants, in a sometimes fraught interrelationship.
