Nils-Erik Gjerdevik »Nils-Erik Gjerdevik«

Stockholm, January 13, 2005 - February 26, 2005

Galerie Nordenhake is very pleased to present new works by Nils Erik Gjerdevik. Gjerdevik is well known for his non-figurative paintings which challenge all the set rules and conventions of painting as a genre. He confronts our idea of how a painting should be presented through his use of peculiar formats, alternative colours and composition that rarely conform to a classical harmonious scale. His paintings tend toward a more ambiguous expression where seemingly divergent ideas and movements meet in one and the same work. This practice applies to his drawings and ceramic sculptures as well.

Gjerdevik always incorporates the architectonic as a principle in his work, whether it is a three dimensional sculpture or a two dimensional painting. This also applies to the installation of his work , which is done in dialogue with the physical space surrounding it.

In the space at Galerie Nordenhake Nils Erik Gjerdevik will create a large wallpainting that will function as backdrop to one of his paintings and a series of framed drawings.

Nils Erik Gjerdevik was born in 1962 in Oslo, Norway. He lives and works in Copenhagen. His recent Solo Exhibitions include Nils Staerk Contemporary Art, Copenhagen (2004), The Danish National Gallery, Copenhagen (2003), Galleri MGM, Oslo (2003), Kunsthalle Rostock (2000), Galerie Annette de Keyzer, Antwerpen (2000). This is Nils Erik Gjerdeviks first solo exhibition at Galerie Nordenhake.
